If you are in Year 11, progressing to Year 12 this September and want to try something new, we want to hear from you.
Elliott Hudson College, in Beeston, is one of the leading post-16 institutions in the country. For 2019/20, this exceptional educational opportunity is expanding to Boston Spa Academy. With it also comes the chance to try a sport in which Great Britain is a world leader.
RowUK is working with GORSE to build a world class junior rowing programme in all secondary academies and colleges across the Trust. With programmes already established in two academies, Boston Spa Academy this ground-breaking project.
This programme gives you the opportunity to push yourself to achieve more than you thought you could, expand your horizons, and develop into a high-performance athlete. You do not need any prior rowing experience; just the right physique and attitude to give rowing a go.
GORSE believe it is vital to get the correct balance between study and training. You won’t be thrown in at the deep end. Rather, your training will be tailored to you and will build up gradually. The Yorkshire GB Start coach will work with GORSE staff to track your progress and support your development whilst you are still at school.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need to be at the event for three full four hours?
A. No. Assessments will start after school so come along at 3pm and you'll be scheduled a slot as early as we can fit you in.
Q. What does the test involve?
A. The test will cover four main components:
- Anthropometrics, measuring your height, arm span, weight
- Strength assessment
- Flexibility where you will be asked to hold various positions to assess mobility and stability
