An Interview with Lanre Adeleye for Sport Relief

"...Rowing for a long period of time, to me, seems like a great personal challenge to fulfil."

Lanre is a student at Bishop Young Academy. He is a participant of our RowLeeds Indoor Programme and recently competed in the RowLeeds Indoor Championships. On Thursday 22nd March, Lanre will be taking his rowing to a whole new level as he rows for 30 minutes straight in aid of Sport Relief. We checked in with Lanre about his exciting charity row.

What got you into indoor rowing?

I got into rowing when we did it as part of the curriculum in core PE, then there was an opportunity to take part in 'Rowing Club' on Mondays after school which made me want to do it more.

What is your favourite thing about indoor rowing?

It's a fun way to use your energy.

Why have you selected rowing for your Sport Relief campaign?

They were looking for volunteers and as it was for a good cause, I thought I should do it. Rowing for a long period of time, to me, seems like a great personal challenge to fulfil.

You recently competed in the RowLeeds Indoor Champs. How do you feel this has prepared you for your Sport Relief row?

As I can look back and reflect on how I was able cope rowing for 5 minutes, it means I can take that and use it for a more challenging event. Also, by taking part in the RowLeeds Indoor Champs, it has made me more aware of my technique which I know is important for good performance.

What do you hope to achieve as part of your Sport Relief row?

All-in-all I want to raise as much money as I can, so I can add to the school's total, so it can help those who really need it.

What advice do you have for anyone else who is rowing to raise money for Sport Relief?

Don't use all your energy at the start but stay at a constant pace and in the last few minutes... push as hard and as fast as you can.
